Three separate grips is what sets this stand apart: a wide clip across the top, two hinged clips on the bottom ledge, and a removable side clip that doubles as a marker for the line you stopped on. That last one turned out to be the piece we reached for most — with a long draft, the side marker saves you re-reading a paragraph every time you look up at the screen.
That flexibility is why it is the stand we recommend first. The plate measures 13.9 by 8.2 inches, so a full letter page sits inside its edges with room to spare, and the seven notches run from nearly flat to steep enough to bring the page up near eye level. The metal base has enough weight to stay where you set it while you turn a page — we never had to chase it back across the desk.
The plate itself is acrylic rather than steel, which keeps the whole stand at 1.1 pounds and makes it easy to pick up one-handed and refold. Folded, it is about a fifth of an inch thick, so it lives behind a monitor or in a drawer instead of permanently on the desk.
Where it stops: the bottom ledge is sized for paper and ordinary books, so a heavy art folio wants a stand with a deeper tray and metal page arms. For drafts, scripts, recipes, and a paperback propped open, the three-point grip does the work.
Pros
- Three ways to secure a page
- Seven notches from near-flat to eye level
- Folds to about a fifth of an inch
- Stays put while you turn pages
Cons
- Side marker clip can slide on slick paper
Our first recommendation: a full-page plate, seven angles, and three separate grips that keep a manuscript exactly where you set it.
