The first evening with this one makes the case for it. You stake it in the yard, point it at the garage, and move from snowflakes to a jingling bell to Santa without going back outside — the remote is RF rather than infrared, rated to 65 feet and able to pass through walls, so pattern, speed, and timer all change from the kitchen. The five shapes are all Christmas: snowflake, bell, tree, Santa Claus, and a starry field, projected in red and green laser.
That combination is what puts it at the top of our list, ahead of brighter and more expensive units. Aimed at a wall or a garage door from 10 to 20 feet, the shapes are easy to identify from the sidewalk; from 40 feet they break up, and the red laser reads noticeably dimmer than the green. Kill the porch light on the surface you're using and the difference is dramatic — the same projector suddenly looks like a much pricier one.
The hardware is sturdier than the plastic-bodied picks here: an aluminum housing at IP65, a 16.4-foot cord, a round base and a long ground stake, UL listing, and a one-year warranty that several of these don't match. What you give up is variety. Five shapes is the entire library, with no slides and nothing seasonal beyond December, so if you want Halloween and birthdays too, the FLITI is the better buy.
Pros
- Five recognizable Christmas patterns
- RF remote works through walls from up to 65 ft
- UL listed, IP65 aluminum body, one-year warranty
Cons
- Only five patterns, with no slides
The safest first Christmas projector we tested: five recognizable holiday shapes, an RF remote that works from indoors, and a UL-listed body at a mid-range price.
